How this engine is built
MeriKismat separates two layers marketing pages usually fuse: ganita (calculation) and phala (interpretation). Only the first is scientific in the modern sense.
What is actually scientific
- Planetary longitudes from Jean Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms, plus Keplerian elements, then Lahiri ayanamsa.
- Sidereal zodiac: Lahiri / Chitrapaksha, India’s official offset from a stellar reference.
- Panchang limbs: tithi = (Moon − Sun)/12°, nakshatra = Moon/13°20′, yoga = (Sun + Moon)/13°20′.
- Vimshottari math: 120-year cycle, nine lords, remainder of Moon’s nakshatra.
- Ashtakoota: eight discrete rules on two Moon positions, summing to 36.
Birthplace and Lagna
Lagna is a function of local sidereal time and latitude. One degree of longitude is four minutes of clock time and about one degree of Lagna on average. District headquarters are enough for rashi. A village 0.1° east of the HQ only moves Lagna ~0.1° — critical near a sign sandhi, otherwise cosmetic. The gazetteer lists 5,270 Indian places across 36 states and union territories, plus old names (Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Bangalore, Benares) so the search a working astrologer types actually hits.
What is traditional
House meanings, yoga phala, dasha themes and upayas come from Sanskrit horā texts. Controlled tests of Indian natal rules have not shown those interpretive mappings beating chance. Treat phala as a cultural decision framework, not physics.

Accuracy
This browser engine is Meeus-class: Sun within a few arcminutes, Moon about 0.3–0.8°, outer planets about 0.5–2°. Enough for rashi and nakshatra on modern dates. Swiss Ephemeris remains the professional standard for minutes of Lagna.
